Question about speed of a laptop

I have a Compaq Presario R3000. It has a AMD 3000+. When i go to system it say it running 797ghz. Is it suppose to say 1.6ghz? IT takes aboutunder one mintue to boot to window.

WHen i check again, now it say 398 mhz? is the laptop messup? I can return it.....

I know the mobile Pentiums alter the clock speed when running on battery power to reduce power consumption. I believe the mobile Athlons do as well.
Try plugging the charger in.

Yes, thats most likely the case. I think there might be a power saving feature that will disable that in control panel.
