I've got 2 computers connected via a router and I've always used My Network Places to transfer files between them. However, it is frustratingly slow taking an hour to transfer about 200mb of files. How could I speed this up? As when I connect to my xbox via FTP it transfers files at the rate of around 5mb a second so I know the connection can handle it. When I try to connect the 2 computers with FlashFXP, it fails. PLease help.

They are connected to the router with patch cables with their own NIC cards.

have you checked your router and nic settings?

That is very slow. Even if the cards are 10Mb / half duplex they should run much faster that that.

Make sure you have the correct drivers loaded for the nics, try some different cables.

To connect them with Flash FXP you will need to get an FTP server as Windows doesn't have one built in (unless you have a server version). You can get free ones if you look around. FTP is faster that windows file sharing but with the speed you get something is very wrong.

Yes, check your nic settings.

Right click the network card from network connections on the start menu down to properties should have "client for microsoft networks" checked "file and printer sharing" checked and "internet protocol TCP/IP" checked.
Click the "configure" button then the advanced tab, "property" highlight "link speed/duplex mode" the "auto mode" value should detect the speed of the card that said you can tweak the settings by dropping down the "value" menu.
Post back with what you find.

try ftp instead and report back... sometimes will be much faster the copy/paste...
