i have one of these
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-129-161&depa=0
i was using dvd-rw and wanted to erase it, so i went on nero. It work fine on my 107D, but on my 109 it says "illegal disk" It did boot up and i can play dvd movies fine.
What the problem? What i think is that i put the slave pin on the wrong slot? There is like 5 or 6 pin and had no direction on which one is slave or master
thx

If you look carefully on the top of the drive near the back, the pin layout is labeled there.

Found it now, thx. It was in the correct slot. I try on master and it still say the samething "illegal disk" when trying to erase the dvd+rw. When buring about half way there an error. I try to put in a cd-rw it would not read it....

That is because the Pioneer 109 is virtually worthless without the latest firmware update. Go to http://rpc1.org and pick up the V1.40 update. The 109 had a number of software compatibility issues until this update was released.

thx for the info, i did not know you had to update firmware. My question is that i put in a blank cd-rw and it can click on DVD-RW (E : ), which is my 107d and i can brwose though the disk(empty). In my DVD-109, i click on the icon and it say F:/ is not accessible incorrect function. i have did a back up and erase the disk on the 109 and it looks like it works, but will have to try a dvd-r to see.

Did you hook up the cables wrong?
You can actually hook up an IDE and molex cable the wrong way? I thought they only fit one way.
Anyways, just update the firmwire like said by jester and make sure your jumpers are set accordingly. And try using another burning application too.

I also though there is only one way. I will check the IDE and the molex

I meant getting the IDE cable wrong. IE having the slave portion of the cable hooked up to the drive that is set to master and the master portion of the cable hooked up to the drive that is set to slave. Kinda weird, I know, but it is possible.

Some drives behave differently to blank media. If you actually wrote something to the CD-RW is there a problem?

if i was you i would take both drives out and set the jumpers on the back of the 109 to master.
and set the jumpers on the 107d to slave.
then put them back in the pc and make sure the 109 is fitted with the end connector of the IDE cable.
and the 107d is using the middle connection.
both of these will then be secondery drives.
i hope this helps

thx all for helping. I fix the problem. I right click on dvd-rw icon and then properties. Click on the tap Recording, then check box "Enable CD recording on this drive" My 107D did not had to go though all this crap.

What if they're on different IDE Channels?

very good question neo.
and as most pc,s will only have two ide cables that is the way i would set them up.
but you can purchase cards that add an extra pair of EIDE channels .
then you could set both drives to master
