Playing Ps2 backups without the use of a modchip

I came across this and blew it off because I thought the PS2's security was written to the very most outer ring of the disc just like the PS1 which can't be copied! I am sure this doesn't work since it would be all over, but just for that very slight chance this has escaped the masses...Does it Work?

Not likely. Even so going through all of that would be more of a hassle than getting a pro to install a chip and then do a simple backup. Also even if it does work that only applies to CD-R based games or rips and not full DVD-R backups.
