As I said on the other place mate, I should have mine cased up for next week and will be gigging with it, I'll let you know how I get on. I don't intend using mp3+G on DVD's, instead I will use ordinarary CD's, I'll still get between 7 & 10 mp3+G discs on each. The reason for this is browsing to each disc can take a little time and if you have to browse to your disc number 50 you could be there a while.

Hi Vinnie, I wish you luck with the gig, look forward to hearing your comments on it's practicality for gigging as I am still in two minds about buying one. I wonder if anybody has an easier solution to the browsing for a track situation.
Have a good 'un, Vinnie, anyway.

I went the hard drive route and open all my songs, which have been tagged, in Winamp. I then save the total tracks as one playlist, select the most popular in another and saved it too. I then list all the tracks in Xcel in the same order so I dont have to refer to a book, just open the worksheet side by side with Winamp playlist, makes it very easy. I also have a spare hard drive set up the same way.

Got it cased now, I'm going to use it as an ordinary CD+G player this week as my discs and songbooks aren't finished yet.

Going to have to reserve judgement for now if, as I suspect I put a little too much foam in the case. I knew it was a little tight but when I tried it everything seemed fine, you can really only find out any real problems once you are out gigging with it. I reckon that the foam is pressing down a little too hard on the top of the player leading to the lens not being properly aligned, leading to one track stopping in the middle and another couple being very glitchy while playing, ALL of these tracks should play perfectly. Unfortunately the rest of my gigs this weekend are singing gigs not karaoke so I'll get back to you all next week. One thing I can say is that if any you have problems playing ZOOM discs (I've seen machines struggle with them) this machine plays them better than anything I've seen before.

Nothing to do with too much foam at all, the machine died on me gradually over a couple of weeks (out of the case and just used at home). When I eventually got the time, I took it back last week. The engineer was off, so I had to leave it. I got a call today to say that they were replacing it and I could come and pick a new one up anytime, I figure that, as far as service goes, this is not too bad at all. I asked what the problem had been and Chris (the engineer) said the BIOS had been screwed up. "Oh right, okay" says I. "it looks like you put a disc in it didn't like, as in some kind of firmware upgrade" ???? Let me tell you all (as I told him) that NO ATTEMPT was ever made by me to upgrade the firmware on this machine. The machine was only four or five weeks old when it died. I was, and still am, trying to work out the best way to use it ffs!
When I went to pick up my replacement this p.m. I was again told that "this (screwed BIOS) is what we see when someone tries to upgrade them" No matter how many times I denied attempting to flash the BIOS he was adament. Perhaps I shouldn't be, as the machine was replaced without a quibble, but, I am a little pissed at this. I can only re-affirm that the ONLY discs inserted into the machine were CD+G, mp3+G (CD), VCD and DVD movies.
Again I applaud the decent service in replacing the machine, but I'm none to enamoured of the attitude.
Not had time to even take the replacement out of the box yet, and it might be next week before I get the time to case it back up, so I apologise if your waiting on a further review.

Hmmm. Have you virus checked you cd's? Haven't seen a Bios virus around for a long time but there was some doing the rounds a few years back. Just a thought mind, could be a boot sector virus on one of the cd's trying to flash the Bios.

Would they be visible when you explored the disc? or could they be integrated into another file, as part of a DVD perhaps? The only mp3+G disc I can remember using was one I made myself from orginal discs i.e. the EK sixpack (EK 1 - 6) apart from that, I used original CD+G or CD+G made with CDRWIN from mp3+G I can't see how anything else could have got onto any of them. Which leaves a couple of discs from my VCD collection, which come from an impecable source, and a few DVD movies, the origins of which I can't vouch for.

Like I said Vinnie it was just a thought, as far as I can remember the virus doing the rounds used to flash the Bios on the motherboard, rendering it unusable. I don't think it would be listed as a file as it wrote itself to the boot sector of the hard disk and I believe it did the same on cd's and floppies. It's years since I came across this but what they're saying to you smacks of a similar problem. Best bet is to check the disks on your pc using a virus and trojan checker, see if anything shows up.

Another thought. Why didn't they just flash the Bios back to the original. Surely, if they know the problem, they would have a disk to do it.?????:insane:

I must admit any form of virus never occured to me, I'll check the DVD's I played in it, as I don't want to be back there with the same problem in a week or two, cheers. As for flashing back to the original state, I really doubt that was actually the problem in the first place (unless it came from the factory like that)
