You should be able to copy Ps2 games as regular DVDs and they'll work. The only exceptions are dual layer ones, like Gran Turismo 4.

And as far as I know you boot the Ps2 up with the swap magic disc, then use the slide card to open the tray, swap the disc for your dvdr, close the tray and boot the game. I've never used a slide card myself though, just taking the lid off the dvd drive and swapping discs. Check the place you bought it from?

Cheers

I own a debugging station, also known as a Test box ps2 which plays burnt ps1 games but has never been able to play a burnt ps2 game. It plays original games fine. When backing up a ps2 game I get the "red screen of death" ie, 'please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disk.' I've tried every available guide online to backup the disk and have used several of the most highly recommended media, both + and - but have been completely unable to get anything out of it. All the forums that deal with this message say its a problem with the mod chip or the media but it isn't the mod chip because there is no mod chip in a test box, they're MADE to run burnt disks and it isnt the media because i've tried heaps of the best. ANY advice would be really appreciated.

The ps2 debug version DTL-H3000x Sworked only via pc for game thsat were advanced enough to be considered ps2 games standard by hooking the debugging unit directly to it (never had one though)
To play any sony ps2 coded backup disks they still need a chip but not for ps1 games or homebrew stuff that is not that complicated the only thing this would really allow you to do is play orignal ps2 games from other regions since the region code is removed so developers could see games from other regions it still contained magic gate protection to prevent offical ps2 backups from being played from a disk

You still need a chip for ps2 games they were concerned about psone backups on the test unit though so

You can read the how to backup a disk instructions for any dvd burning software you might have
(usually you choose backup disk option and click burn)

That sounds about right since thats how they're used in development usually. Do you think I'll need a network adapter or will it link over a USB port? Also do you know of any sites that deal with software for running backups directly from the PC?
