Hiya, first - it feels nice to be in a new home, thanks for doing this guys.
My problem may be very simple and if so, apologies. I have just bought a Pioneer 107 and using Record Now Max for burning as I always have done. Using Ritek 4x printable medium. I did expect the 107 to burn at 8x but it is still only 4x. I see on Google that a patch is available, but doesnt actually say where it can be obtained. I'm a little wary of doing this. Is there a 'how to' guide or can someone help this thicko out please?

8x4all <--- it's a firmware hack, it comes with a readme that explains the install. When I get home I can send it to you if you give me your email. After the hack you'll be able to burn 4x riteks at 8x, I'm averaging about 8 minutes total for a 4.7gb disc!

EDIT: I found flashman's site download herehttp://flashman.rpc-1.com/

Sounds like you bought the 107 and not the 107D. The latter burns both -/+ dvdr's at 8x's but the 107 only does +r's at 8x and -r's at 4x. Almost made that mistake myself.

@pepsik, rub it in and brag some more why don't you?! :p

Well that works out great for me. The best deal I can find is on the 107D. ;)

Yep, I'd get one if I hadn't already bought the 106 a couple months back damnit! :( The missus wouldn't be too impressed if I did...hmm, wedding anniversary perhaps?

Sheesh after reading a number of posts about wives complaining about money it makes me glad I am still single. Anyways, it's no biggie. 7-8 extra minutes of burning time isn't gonna kill ya. ;)

You could always build your own for next to nothing .... see this site as posted by Goone :

Side question here: Sony isn't developing a 12x dvd+r dvd writer are they? Thought 8x was pretty much the max allowable?

- Merc.

Edit: Hmm, n/m. Seems Plextor and CyberDrive are though as the new dual layer +/- burner here (http://www.insanely-great.com/news.php?id=3193). :D

No merc, the 16X drives will be out before the end of the year.

I think most manu's are avoiding interim 12X writers but LiteOn are bringing one out to make a few $$$ :D
