ps2 chipped ,will only play originals

hi
my sons ps2 has stopped playing backups,plays originals fine.
its 3 years old ,had the messiah chip fitted.
could it be a laser prob?
if it is, is it worth getting repaired or getting a new ps2 with a newer chip in it.

If it still plays originals fine with no hesitation's whatsoever, be it either DVD's or CD's then it sounds likely that a wire has come off the modchip.

Only other thing I can think is if the Messiah is stuck in PSX/Film mode. Thing to try is unplugging the PS2 from the supply for a minute and trying it again. If you hold down the RESET button too long then it tends to go into PSX/Film mode until you switch the power off and on, not just by the RESET button.

Give it a whirl anyway mate. :)
