Is this an upgrade to 7 or can it be installed as a stand-alone application? Just curious if it's worth getting or not. TIA. Btw, wtf does the 'CS' mean anyway?

The Creative Suite 8 is a new version that offers many major features such as camera RAW supports, extended 16-bit supports, lens filters and JPEG 2000 support (with plug-ins).
Photoshop CS goes a step further than a simple upgrade from 7, as Van Nugent says there are many new and improved features.
Here's the new features web page for Photoshop CS (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/newfeatures.html)
Here's a short flash movie (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/movie_swf.html) highlighting some of the new features in Photoshop CS.
Btw I've read in the newsgroups that Creative Suite 2 including Photoshop CS version 9 is expected to be released soon ....... possibly March (no Idea if that's true though).
