My PC has just started making a mad noise which seems to be coming from the PSU....so can I just buy a new one and replace without problems with power levels etc??

I also spotted a website that says the majority of PSUs just need the fan replaced rather than the whole unit, is that a better/easier option??

Thanks in adavance for info.
Cheers,

Would be cheaper and more importantly, safer to just replace the whole unit.

Is replacing just a matter of buying a new one (any new one) and sticking it in??

More or less, although it's a good idea to invest ina slightly higher wattage, bearing in mind the more drives etc. you add to the system, the higher the drain.

IMO go for a min of 400w ..... just make sure you get the right connector for your mobo.

As I have found recently, using Ebuyer you can get one for about a tenner as opposed to £40 in PC World....

Simply unscrew and re-screw.

... but if you want a decent PSU from ebuyer you still need to spend about 30 quid for an Antec.

Yeah, dont get a cheapy, Antec or Enermax are the best. Even a Thermaltake will do, for a little less money.
