epson stylus c46 problem

hi, i just installed a new black ink cartridge and it's showing up fine but now it says that the colour cartridge is not installed properly, when it was working fine beforehand as there was loads of ink left. I took it out and put it back in but was still saying the same. I then replaced it with a new one and it's still saying the same.

The black ink cartridge i installed was a compatible but the original colour one was a genuine epson one and i replaced that with a compatible colour.

Does anyone have any ideas how i might fix this? The printer is only a few months old.

try the epson util to reset the colour.my cousin went through 3 c44 c46 printers within 3months.so i went for the c66 with seperate ink carts.

how do you reset the colour thing as the only utils are to clean print heads etc but they wont work as it's not recognising the cartrisges?
I've used the util to change the cartridges but still not recognising it.

It's really annoying me though as i only want to print off some documents in black but as it says the colour cartridge isn't properly installed it won't let me print anything at all.
