Can you explain a bit more on "the usb controller remains with no drivers"? What did you see when you checked it in Device Manager?
What OS are you running (XP, XPSP1, XPSP2...)?

Im running XP
When i go into hardware and device manager there remains a little mark against the
universal serial bus (usb controller) - When i click it,it says no drivers have been loaded for this
I have searched the dell site with no luck,Even when i put in my dell tag code
And the usb ports wont work beacuse of this as none of the ports pick up any of my usb devices when i plug in ?

It's strange because XP should detect & install the driver automatically for the USB hubs and host controllers. Did you check the BIOS to make sure the USB is not disabled?
You can try removing all USB host controllers and root hubs then reboot the system to let it automatically detect them and re-install the driver.

Will check now and do what you said,Thats what i thought as XP PRO should have sorted this out on its own
In PRE-SP1, you needed to install the drivers. Do you have SP2 (or sp1) installed?

If you're running WinXP SP1, you do not need to update to SP2 if you do not wish to. What XP version are you running now? Up to this point, I always assume you're running at least XP-SP1 because I can't imagine a member running plain old XP Windows without a service pack these days whether or not he likes Mr. Bill Gates . But it may be the case and if it's the case, please read the last part of this post. :)
Now you did the obvious thing and it didn't help so let's go to a more complicated thing. On a motherboard, one of the PCI slots is sharing the IRQ with the USB controller. If the PCI card installed in that slot doesn't like IRQ sharing, and this happens very often, it would also cause problems to the USB as well. In this case, shut down the PC then remove the PCI cards one at a time to see which one is the selfish guy that doesn't like sharing IRQ with others. Finally, put it on another PCI slot and if you do not have anymore spare slot, try switching it with another card. Reboot the system to see if it fixes the problem. To save time, you can check the mobo's manual. It should tell you which PCI slot is sharing IRQ with the USB.
Now, I'm going to send the USB 2.0 XP driver to the email address you registered with the Board. Give me about 10 mins to check your Profile for the email address and to find the driver from my archived CD's. Try this driver first to see if it helps.
