My pioneer 107 was giving a few errors during burning so I got the NEC.

Now when I use nero and burn from dvdrom to the NEC the used read buffer only gets to 50%. The disk burns fine but no matter what speed I pick it writes at around 4X (15 mins).

The remaining time gets to 0.00 in about 6 minutes but its only about 40% thru the burn by then.

The burn does continue to completion but takes, like I said, around 15 minutes.

I ruled out a faulty dvdrom by using another one and using the 107 as the source drive.

Also I can write 8X dvd at 8X on the NEC using dvd decrypter from my hard drives.

Also the 107 was able to burn at 8X on the fly no problems.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Thanks in advance :)

Have you got the NEC as the Master on Secondary IDE Channel, with DVD-ROM as Slave on Primary ?

No its in same place as my 107 was.

dvdrom is secondary master, nec secondary slave. I know you are not supposed to have on same ide chan but my 107 was fine.

I have a 160gb with Winxp os on primary master.

Primary slave is a 160gb hdd used for downloads and temp files etc.

Hmmmm. ....... the simplist thing to try is reconfiguring them.

As you say, ideally you need :

Primary Master - 160gb with Winxp os
Primary Slave - DVD-ROM
Secondary Master - NEC
Secondary Slave - 160gb hdd used for downloads and temp files etc.

Many DVD Burners need to be set up as the Master Drive, especially when burning on the fly.

My old 106 wouldn't burn on the fly as a Slave .... a bit surprised your 107 did.

If you dont want to reconfigure All the drives, try just swapping the NEC and the DVD-ROM

I concur. The burner should always be configured as the Master for best results.

Is the DVD-ROM on the same channel still ?

Yes it is still on same channel.

Can't really swap around unless I use my raid card. But I am not sure if that will ruin my hard drives. I seem to have had 2 dead drives within a few months using the raid
