I have this v 7 dvd rom that came out of my ps2 that i burn (The motherboard got fry only). I was wondering do you think the laser still work? i not sure did the motherboard also messup the laser also.I only use the dvd-rom less then an hour until ####*&^(:) it up. I was planning on getting a used ps2 that had no laser and use my existing one to put it in. the ps2 is same version, so it must be the same laser type

The laser should fit just fine. As long as the DVD-ROM drive wasn't damaged at all then it shouldn't be a problem.

You also need to bear in mind that the V7s usually have Sanyo lasers, some other PS2s have Sony lasers (mostly v3/4). If you're putting it into a V5 or a V7 then you should be fine. The drive itself is different on V3/4/9/10, and V9/10 can have either Sony or Sanyo lasers.
