Alright, this is the setup:
3 story house built with internal networking capabilities. (meaning theres a cat5 plug available in everyroom right below the phone jack)
All 8 of these plugs run into the master bedroom and is connected together by a linksys 8 port router.

computer 1:
winXP pro SP1
XP1500+ 512 DDR ECS K7S5A mobo (i think its a SiS 900 built in lan)
+1 printer IJ300 Compaq
file & print sharing is enabled, printer is "shared" 1 hd is being shared

computer 2:
win98 SE (166mhz)
netgear NIC card
+1 printer HP 692C (also being shared)

computer 3:
compaq 700mhz XP pro SP1
IJ750 printer
file sharing enabled also.

computer 1 cannot see computer 3. so i cant access that printer or the shared files. it can see both 2 & 3, but i havent tried accessing that printer yet. Assume its working fine.

computer 2 can see the files of both 1 & 3 but cant access the printers, ive tried installing the drivers but windows gives me an error. "unable to install drivers reboot and try again etc etc.. " which i did and still got the errors.

computer 3 cannot run My Network Places -> view workgroup computers it restarts explorer. but once in a while its able to see 1 & 2. but thats it, no double clicking or else it says computer not found blah blah blah.

the linksys router 8 port befsr81. nothing much i know about it.

so what i would like help on is why are my computers being retarted. thank you. =) no seriously though, why arent my computers able to talk to each other properly most importantly why computer 3 is being a pain and not being able to use networking features correctly. they all can surf the net no problem. just the lan between them. more details hopefully if any replys come.

Sounds like a name resolution issue if you go to the run dialogure box on comp1 and type \\ipaddress\sharename (file://\ipaddresssharename) use the ipaddress of comp3, you should open an explorer window with the contents of your shared folder, let me know what your results are.

Well nothing happens when I do that run thing using that \\ip\share
when i try to open up the computer icon in the workgroup it says
\\ computer\ is not accessable. you might not have permission to use this network resource..... ... .. The network path was not found.

Make sure all the computers are in the same "Workgroup" and sharing is enabled on all.

Sharing is enabled and they are in the same workgroup. proven as comp2 can access both 1& 3.. 1 & 3 have problems between them

What do you mean nothing happens when you do the run thing? does it tell you the network resource cant be found or you don't have access to the network resource? I wouldn't expect nothing to happen. I am trying to avoid using Network neighborhood as the Windows Network browser can be unreliable and using the run dialogue box to browse directly to the share circumvents this. As well a sthis if there are name resolution issues you will never see thing in Network Neighborhood

oh. after i made the 1st reply about nothing happening eventually it finally told me the same thing as if i double-clicked the icon for comp3. "\\computer is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the admin of this server to find out if you have access permissions. the network path was not found."

after doing the run command and waiting maybe 5 min.
\\ip\share folder\
"the network path was not found"
