It'd be cool if we could implement a sort of little fun money system and a shop, or integrate a chat into the forum.

Most likely not since the trend around here is to preserve bandwidth (I could probably get you some hosting cheap, owners ;)). But hey, it'd be a fun idea, wouldn't it?

Just my two cents, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
First of all, jams needs to implement all the needed hacks here. Then he will need to update bst-secure to vbulletin 3, and add all the needed hacks there. So even if it is possible, it won't occur in the near future as he's going to be really busy.
