can you take out the dvd and then if it continues to reboot it is deffo the problem
What PSU do you have (generic or branded and wattage). The DVD writer pulls a lot of power and if it cannot handle it, it may reboot.
I have the k7s5a and this was the problem with mine.

Should be enough but I've not heard of starnet . Test the unit without the writer and see what happens.
If you have a spare IDE channel, try setting it as master.
Do it reboot when you are burning, after a specific amount of time or randomly?

Have you installed any new software recently? Could be causing a conflict somewhere.
Check all your PCI cards are sitting firm, also check the memory is placed correctly. If you fitted a new drive something could have been knocked out of place.

Press [Windows] + [Pause/Break] to open the System Properties Control Panel. Switch to the Advanced tab and click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Untick the box marked Automatically Restart and click OK. Now when your system crashes you’ll get a STOP error – make a note of the error itself and any files it mentions. These will almost certainly be VXD or driver files, and armed with that information you’ll be able to search the Web for a solution.

When you say you've tried win98, do you have a dual boot or have you wiped it perhaps?
Obvioulsy less likely to be a sw issue if you're using a different os.

Clearly CMOS is unlikely to help however it certainly shouldn't do any harm. Just note down the key settings (clock speed etc) before you do this.

If the setup has worked ok until now and the cpu temps and PSU seem ok, the other thing to check out is your RAM. It's possible a fault has developed here.
If your 512mb is 2 sticks, try taking them out and refitting them one at a time and see if this makes any difference.

I am using the same mobo as you and have never had a problem.

Agree with Phil. RAM is usually the culprit for this type of thing. If not I believe it is still a hardware problem.
You may have loosened some power leads when you had the case open. Re check and reseat all power leads to the MoBo and the HDD's etc.

250 will be ok. By the sounds of it you will only need to try it for a few days then you can go buy a new and larger capicity psu.

Email Rob has hit it on the head.
DO WHAT HE SAYS.

It may or may not be a software/config issue but at least with an error code you can get somewhere... come back when you have one.

Regards

EDIT - Sorry just realised you're running 98.... upgrade it. XP is better now that all the updates and service packs are available. Also why are you worried about the cost of a 400w PSU? they're basic but you can pick them up for about £7 now. Worth a punt in anyones book at that price, even if its not that you've got a spare and are not exactly out of pocket.
