Have read mixed reviews, the main complaint being that dark colours are not displayed as well as they should.

Very subjective I suspect. If you liked the picture when you saw it then I wouldn't worry.

If the picture was good in the shop and yours differs (negatively so), find out what settings they had for contrast, brightness etc and set yours the same
