dvd black and white

On playing a dvd copy film on a ps2 it only plays back in black and white,my friends ps2 has a scart lead ,any idea why?

Probably due to the film being in NTSC format (if you're based in the UK), I believe the workaround is to use an RGB scart lead but this only works if the TV is capable of handling the NTSC signal. I don`t actually own a ps2 so forgive me if the name of the lead is incorrect.
