nec 2500a re-writer probs plz help?

hi i have the above drive and have had it working for a good 2-3 months, and now it will only work when it wants to....

what it does:

Ill load nero and copy a dvd fine but when putting it on a dvd (blank) it will start the timer ticking and the light on the dvd writer will come on and then go off after about 20 seconds and then nothing. (plus it does nero in and i have to restart pc to get nero open again) + the dvd draw won't open until i reboot.

I have tried:

A firmware update! no change! (tried latest firmware as it now supports 2.4xdual Layer dvds)

Anyone else?????

It could be nero itself. Have you tried another software. If you are talking about movie or game backups you could just use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode. It's freeware so you have nothing to lose by trying it out and it will at least help us narrow down whether it's the burner itself or something else. www.dvddecrypter.com

hi there m8, thanks for the reply ans help! im currently doing dvd to dvd with nero, i have also downloaded all the nero updates and no change!

what else can i use to do dvd to dvd copying? and then ill try that :)

well if its DVD5 to DVD-r (backups incuded) as Jesterrace says, Dvd Decrypter should do it find in ISO read/write mode. A very hepful guide, with pics can be found Here (http://www.dvdrom-guide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13).

Yup, straight DVD copys can be done just fine with Decrypter.
