Guys and Gals
Started up my Newsgrabber (Newsreactor) tonight and thought i
would download some stuff (Music) roughly 15 songs and after i
have done it , i try for some more and i get "Host server reached its limit"
or something like that.....Im with pipex on unlimited BB.
Anyone got any ideas? or has something changed since the last time i
used this service....about 12 months ago.

Im with pipex and use there newsgroups.

Cheers

newsgroups in general are getting much more popular as they don't get the same legal attention that p2p and BT do.

to be honest unless your ISP has a News agreement with one of the premium services then it will be crap.

only option is to pay for one now. UK options are basically Clara but only 2/3 days retention.

Premium options are Astraweb at http://www.news.astraweb.com/ or Newshosting. Both offer unlimiteed for about £10/month.

currently, there are 2 different Pipex news servers:

news.dsl.pipex.com
nntp.dsl.pipex.com

the first one is the free one that has unlimited downloads. currently on the UUNET servers. it has about a 6 day retention period and the download completion ranged from excellent (almost everything complete - you wont even need par files) to very poor (almost everything incomplete - not even par files make a difference). also the download speed is usually constant i.e. ~ 55kbs but can be realy slow sometimes. you dont need a password/username to access this one.

the second one is also free but has a monlthy download limit of 10GB - u can purchase extra GB if you need. they use the Giganews servers. the retention is excellent; for binaries its upto 50 days - so you can always find those missing files! download speeds are constant and never drop ~ 45kbs. you'll need a password/username to access this - the same one u use to connect to the net.

i suggest you use both at the same time. use news.dsl.pipex.com to download as much as you can for even if its slightly incomplete. get the rest from nntp.dsl.pipex.com so not to waste your 10GB limit (although for music thats more than enough by itself).
