Bought some datawrite yellows recently and started getting alot of i/o errors and power calibration errors. Tried my cheapo rw disc and works every time, this is how i knew the datawrite's were dodgy. Some discs would burn, but maybe take 3-4 attempts. I have another pack left but was just thinking of selling them to a mate or could it be a dodgy batch i had?Cant understand though why some would burn and others not. They show up as Ritek G05 in dvd decrypter, and are -r x4 and my burner is a sony dvd rw dw-u14a

My problem now is what discs to buy. Should i now steer clear of all media that is Ritek Go5 ? or is it Datawrite as a brand?

I was looking at some datawrite fujicode. i think the dye is fujifilmo3. They are meant to be very compatible. Check them here http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Show_me_all_the_DVD_R.html#a2185

Also my burner only has a maximum burn speed 0f x4, but can i use x8 discs. obviously i could only burn to a max x4. Its jus that most packs are x8

Thank for reading

When exactly did you buy these discs? and are you sure they have a G05 dye, anyhow the best discs to buy at the moment IMO is any ritek ridata branded disc.

Datawrite is well known for their fleeting quality. I would avoid the label alltogether. As for G05, they are well known to be hit and miss for people (work great for some but not others). As mentioned by Geobon, if you are going to go the Ritek route I would pick up some G04 Ritek/Ridatas. Also I noticed you are using an OEM Sony. I can't remember when they started outsourcing to Lite-On but you may just have an overpriced Lite-On drive there. The OEM Sonys are a nightmare do to firmware incompatibility between them and the retail models.
