Hi,

Ever since I upgraded my computer, my broadband internet has stopped working properly and i keep getting 'Page Cannot Be Displayed' errors and nothing else seems to work either, not even msn messenger etc.

Sometimes if I refresh the page 3 or 4 times, then the page appears but usually in a different format like HTML in the Times New Roman font if you know what i mean.

The strange thing is that I am still receiving the bytes from my ISP and there must be a connection as sometimes if I refresh the page the the site appears, so I'm thinking this could be something going on at my end.

I have no firewall running and I had Service Pack 2 installed, then i uninstalled it and put Service Pack 1, but the same thing keeps happening.

To fix the problem, I have to restart my computer but then the same problem happens afterwards. Just to add as well, after I tried installing firewall software, the computer crashed when I tried to connect to my broadband. I then uninstalled the firewall and it kept happening, so i had to do a system restore.

Thanks for your help
Kev

I don't really know what's wrong but I guess the first step would be to verify the speed of your connection here (http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp), when you say you upgraded your computer do you mean you upgraded to Win XP SP2 or have you changed more than that.

To clarify : did you have the problem before the system restore or has it started hapening since.

Router or DNS problem with ISP maybe?

There were a lot of problems with users who installed SP2 for XP but if you uninstalled, it should have cleared that up.

Have you tried unplugging the modem as well?

Since I upgraded my computer parts and formatted the hard drive, this problem has been happening. Even with SP1 installed I still get the same problem. I had the same problem ever since I formatted, even before the system restore.

I am using the Creative DI7430 broadband modem, its a PCI modem not USB and I have never had any problems with it.

How would I be able to check the DNS settings to make sure that they are correct?

When I click on the connection and go to settings and I get the following details if it's of any help:

Device Name: Creative DSL DI7430
Device Type: isdn
Server Type: PPP
Transports: TCP/IP
Authentication: MD5 CHAP
Compression: (none)
PPP Multilink Framing: Off
Server IP Address: 81.86.96.1
Client IP Address: 81.86.101.65

In my TCP/IP settings I have it set on :

Obtain an IP address automatically & Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Use default gateway on remote network has been ticked.
Use IP header compression has been ticked.

Thanks.

If all else fails, try Pipex support line.

I may be wrong here, but when you upgraded, did you upgrade to XP from W98 or ME, as there doesn't seem to be an XP driver for this modem ..... is it old ?

na, i upgraded my computer components so i had to to install a fresh copy of Windows XP.

You're right about the drivers, its supposed to be for Win2k, but ive been using it for a year or two now on Windows XP with no problems.

Hmmmm. ..... cant think why it would have worked on an earlier XP setup, but not on a fresh install.

Might be worth talking to Pipex & seeing if you can squeeze a Free modem out of them .... they are offering them free for new signups ... perhaps bluff that you're gonna have to cancel etc.
