I just downloaded a video file which neede this codec to play, when I did a search I found that the company O2 is now charging $100 for this codec.

After a little searching I found that it is still available for free here:-

http://www.free-codecs.com/VP6_download.htm

Grab it while you still can.

If this is not allowed then please delete post mods as I thought I would just share.

On2 said that they realised that it was still available and that they weren't going after anyone. So I guess it is ok.

Like most places though that is the old version and not v6.4.2.0.

VP7 should be out some time this year anyway.

All these Codecs are starting to do my head in, the last thing you need after downloading a film for 2 hours is a message saying you aint got the right codec to view the file.

I hear there is a new Quicktime coming soon, they are currently trying to get exclusives for the new Batman Begins and Star Wars III Trailers.

I would prefer if people stick with the free codecs and let codecs like VP6 just die like Betamax.

Yeah. New quicktime should hopefully include vbr he-aac and AVC/h.264 support, which although not exactly free are open standards which I think is more important.
