I made my own PC, Worked fine on first boot went on it all day

next day in the morning when I pressed the power button and the bios thing says all that stuff it only says:

Main processor: Athlon 3000+ etc etc

and sticks there

I power it off and unplug everything and sometimes it does the same but sometimes it boots.

I dont know if this is because I am unplugging and plugging in again a specific problem or that it boots every few goes???

the next line after processor on boot is

checking memory 100349 (or whatever) 2x crucial 512 ddr 333 pc2700

so as it dont get to this part i assume its a problem with ram? but i aint got any idea??

this is what I built:

Soltek EQ3702M Qbic II Amd Socket A Barebone System Mirror front

AMD Athlon XP3000 333FSB 512 L2 Cache Barton Retail
Crucial 512 DDR333 PC2700 DIMM
Seagate ST3160023A 160gb 7200rpm 8mb Cache Barracuda 7200.7 Plus - OEM

Win xp pro

could it be a lose fitting on build? as this is my first build

Thanks

On your motherboard, theres a jumper to 'reset' CMOS, do that and try again as this would be the first line of diag what the cause of your problem. report back with the result.

possibly a faulty power supply m8, or memory, or graphics card. these are the things that give most start up problems.

It wouldn't hurt to check/replace you CMOS battery.

matrix, set your fsb to 200mhz in the bios. that should take you to your desired speed. however, your machine being underclocked should not be stopping startup. i would try reseating all connections in your machine, ie, memory, gfx card, even power cables for stuff, ide cabl;es, everthing.

also, remove the motherboard and check that all risers are in the correct position and not shorting anything out 5(only do this if nothing else works as is a pain in the arse.

try also downloading the latest bios and flashing it, most modern boards come with a flasher on the cd
