Just in case you didn't know, the prescott core is still for 32 bit computing. It's a minor core revision with some enhanced features and is based on a more refined manufacturing process and that's all.

AMD64 improves performance for many applications by evolving this industry-standard technology from a 32 to a 64 bit architecture. 64 bit computing allows operating systems and software to process more data and access a tremendous amount of memory. AMD64 is an industry-standard approach to 64-bit technology to deliver the next generation of performance … today.

Decision is up to you Rudey. Best luck!

I would go with the 64, really not even a hard decision in my books. AMD are much better with games btw, seeing that your gonna get a x800.

so P4 is 32 bit?

what about Pentium M?

Pentium M is mobile CPU, designed for laptops with increased cache, and lower operating speeds. It does not consume as much power as a desktop CPU. And yes, it is 32 bit.

I've just switched back to Intel on my main box as Intel still has the edge with video encoding My benchmark tests with CCE deffo give me proof I made the right choice. On virtually every other front however the AMD's are better.

just out of interest, why is a 2.8g p4 not powerful enough or have you just got loads of money to throw away on minor speed increases :)

Gigahertz are meaningless know. Intel sells themselves becuase of there high gigahertz speed, which really isnt making a rats a$$ of a difference in terms of performance. Hence why amd can compete with intel @ 1 gigahert slower.

A 2.8ghz machine is powerful enough. Whoever said that it wasnt is on crack.

There is more to a processor than the speed rating in gigahertz, there is front side bus and cache. The higher on the both of those the better.
