Hi, I have a laptop with no Cdrom drive and Floppy disk drive but my Hard-drive got crashed now and it won't boot up anymore, It's not really dead, I just deleted some stupid windows file and now, it won't boot up anymore so I'm fixing to get me an external usb floppy disk drive.

What i want to know is will my laptop bios recognize my usb floppy disk drive at startup so i can run the windows 98 startup floppy disk to copy the files from my Floppy disk to my C:/windows directory on my hard-drive.

Probably not unless some dos drivers are included with the usb drive or you can track some down. Why don't you boot from the CD?

Sorry Missed that bit about the cdrom

I have ordered this one: http://www.parallelonline.com.au/www/product_info.php?products_id=60 it's still in the process of shipping so I can't test it ou yet.

But does anyone here know of any driver to get this to be detected at startup? and how can i installed the driver of this if i can't boot to windows? Is there a way in bios?

You'll need to enable "USB legacy support" in the BIOS then select the option "Boot from USB Devices" in the Boot sequence. If you don't have this option then you're out of luck.

I think Van Nugent pretty much covered it all.
Besides, what files would you copy from the floppy to the hard drive that would correct the problem anyway?
