I have spent more than a week looking over the web learning as much as I can about the xbox, well done you might think, but its been a struggle. I admire all of you that are quick learners or that have the knowledge already about this, but me I found it tough, admitedly I know more now than I did over a week ago, but now I am tierd, stressed and abit confused as to why I cannot simply burn a backup game, or maybe I can but it wont play.
The xecuter 3 chip has been installed, flashed and software loaded. Before I go on just two things I have noticed with the xbox, when I select the Avalaunch Dashboard bar the eject button lights up red, constant, (not flashing) and a little window appears briefly saying "only 0 mb free on f, not sure if these two things are connected with each other. I have Slayers Auto Installer 2.6 installed.
I have managed to transfer games from xbox drive to PC, I use cuteftp and convert to iso using Qwix. I then use Nero 6 ( I have used a couple of walk through tutorials incase I was doing it wrong) but when I put it in the xbox it comes up unknown.
I am burning at low speeds, 4 and below, I have tried dvd-r's Verbatim's and a dvd-rw with no luck, didnt want to go on trying too many dvd-r's and I just seem to be wasting them. I have since tried a Maxwell dvd+rw with Nero 6 in a Pioneer 107D, other discs in a Plextor 708A. Tried Discjuggler with Pioneer and Datasafe dvd-rw.

Assuming the game transfered over to the PC ok it has to be a problem with-
1. Iso creating software or user bad settings
2. Media brand and or + or - ( I read somewhere someone saying an xbox could be capable reading either one as if it was pot luck/random, I dont know if this is true, only as much if the 3 drives that were supplied with xboxes had different preferences).
3. Xbox Samsung dvd drive
4. Or possibly something to do with the mod/dashboard software? (playing backup)

I have-
Xbox ver1.0
8gb HDD
Samsung dvd (xbox)
Xecuter 3 chip Soldered pin header, front mounted dip switch
Flash Bios M8 (not 16) 256k Bank 7
Used normal data cable through network / router

PC Burners-
Plextor 708A & Pionner 107D

PC Software used/treid so far-
Nero 6
Qwix
Cuteftp
Discjuggler

Media so far-
Datasafe dvd-r/rw
Verbatim dvd-r
Maxwell dvd+rw

As I have followed most of what others do I can only suspect the media or the xbox drive, but how can I test or prove this, or is there somewhere else I may of gone wrong or am missing.
Would truly appreciate any help or advice please, I feel so close and yet so far.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Cheers

This is how I burn my games.

Ftp to pc from Xbox.
Open RecordNowMax
pick DATA Disk
Add all the files you FTPed
click burn

I do not change any settings. I do not build the files into an iso. Other people burn their games differently, but this works for me and I stick with it.

Mate, i know exactly how you feel, it's a problem specific to you and you might be so close to sorting out or a million miles away and you never actually know, thats one of the most frustrating things, but there are other people thinking the same thing, well i was at a certain point anyway.

From what you've described it seems like it will be something to do with the chip, bios or dash because you've tried so many options with respect to media although it can be as simple as not ticking a box or something but i'm sure you know that.

I'm not sure how helpful it would be but do you have to use the ftp? can you just burn the game then try to play it in your xbox, maybe ive misunderstood but it seems thats what you're trying to do. Also if you could post what you have tried in the past as you don't mention this, what have you managed to get to work? games previously, apps or just nothing?

hope ive helped in some way.

Thanx freakit and snooper_uk for your inputs.
I had seen another post elsewhere saying similar to you freakit so I decided to try burning straight from the D/L'ed files and guess what it worked, it really does pay to talk.
I will be delving into the burning of iso files after Christmas, I am going to give my brain a rest.
If anyone knows anything about the other 2 problems I have I would appreciate it re- "when I select the Avalaunch Dashboard bar the eject button lights up red, constant, (not flashing) and a little window appears briefly saying "only 0 mb free on f, not sure if these two things are connected with each other"

Cheers

often when burning iso files people forget to tick the finalize disc box. i often do as you just click away. then they dont work. especially with nero
