Howdy all,

I have a problem! i have just started burning dvd's recently and i have run into a wall. When i convert dvd9's to dvd5's i have no problem. the problem occurs when i am trying to backup encrypted dvd9's. i have tried using dvd decrypter to make an iso then using shrink to convert and eventually copy to dvd to burn. i have also tried just using shrink and then burning with copy to dvd. Alright here is the problem, when i do make copies of encypted dvd9's when playing the video the video will freeze up and then stop playing also the movie when it does play is very pixalated. Any suggestions on how to stop and fix this would be great.

thanks,

Tedman

I take it the freeze ups and pixellated picture is when played on a standalone player.
Does it do the same when played on the PC ?

yes it is a standalone. when i play the dvd copys on the computer mostly they are ok but when it gets to the scenes on the standalone that freezes there is about a second or two lag then it starts playing agin with no problem. there is no pixilation like when it is played on the standalone and it does not just stop like on the standalone.

Since you have a dual format drive, I'd suggest you try som nice ritek -r media, and see if that helps. For me, the "plus" means less compatability, "plus" more headaches.

Yup I would say it is the media. I would also recommend going with -R and in particular, Ritek or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.

Maxell DVD+R are generally very good disks, but as mentioned above, it could be a compatibility issue with your standalone not liking the +r format.

Ritek -r's tend to be more compatible with a wide range of standalone players, so, as mentioned give them a try.
When backing up movies, it is critical to get the media right and 95% of the time, this will resolve a playback problem.
