converting .avi

I've used 3ivx or Divx whatever it is called to convert .avi to .mpg so i can watch it on my mac and so I could burn it. Now when I drag the file into the thing, it doesn't work and also if I try to do edit open or whatever and then open the file it still doesn't work. I tried other files but still no.

Try ffmpegx I think it may convert the files for you, a bit complicated though:

I found converting AVI files a bit hit and miss, don't know why. I gave up on it about a year ago.

Thanks. I used to use VLC but then something happened to my computer and it says no mountable system found. None of the things you gave me really worked out, but thanks anyways. Anyone who is familiar with 3ivx and Divx (Whatever the name is), do you have any idea why it would not be working? It just isn't accepting any of the files.
