IMHO not likely. They said the same thing about the Pioneer 106 and that proved to be false.

I don't think any current drive would have that capability without undergoing some major hardware changes.

Why is it not going to happen? the article implies that the current 2500 is identicle to the 2510a hardware wise, so maybe a hacked or even a standard firmware could be flashed? They obviously wont release an offical frmware update for it...damn they don't even seem to want to release just a normal firmware update for the 2500 lol :)

Indeed.

And if you go over to cdrinfo.com they've burned a test DVD9 and it works as well as any other drive at present.

Having said all that, given that these discs don't seem to be reading on anything other than a DL burner at present without a firmware update, the whole format could turn out to be a lemon.

Don't say I didn't warn anybody. I imagine the format will be successful but they need to pull them from the shelves and work the bugs out first.

Aye, I've been saying much the same thing on various boards.

It's a bit like DVD-RAM or HD-Burn on CDR, nice ideas and they may well work brilliantly but if they don't work on at least a high proportion of kit they're not going to take anything like a decent market share.

It'll be highly amusing, after all the waffle coming out of the +RW camp, if their format turns out to be crap and the DVD-R/DL format comes out a few months later fully functional. And the more I see of DVD+R9 the more I think that's exactly what's going to happem.

I sure hope that is what is going to happen. I am sick of this dual-format crap when there really isn't a clear advantage of one over the other.

Dual format at the moment is like having dual toilet rolls in your main bathroom. The toilet roll is there, great. however if you want double luxury unfortunatelty they've not got the toilet rolls together and won't do for another 6 months,

And that time we'll be up to x12 once the figure out how to max the CAV on any high speedrive x4 etc

Mods must be fed up wih this one !!

And just out of interest, what EXTERNAL dvd-r's does anyone have to record these form sets.

AND is your DVD firmware capble of reading the finalised or un-finalised disks especially in older DVDplayers . . .

Blu Ray all the way !!
