Can someone reccomend a video editing software

Basically i want a piece of software which can chop video up(similar to how soundforge works with audio) Im using adobe premier but it still keeps the whole video in my library.

What kind of video? mkv? mp4? ogm? avi? nut? nsv?

Try TMPGEnc MPEG Editor. It will direct stream the MPEG where ever possible.
