playing mpg in media player?

whenever i click on a .mpg link, another internet explorer window opens and the mpg plays in that, how do i get it to open windows media player and play it in that as that happens on my laptop.

Right click on the file, select open with, choose program, select media player & the tick box 'always open with this program'.

ive tried that but it still opens another IE page and plays the mpg in quicktime player withinn IE

if we are talking IE6 then click on the Media button on the toolbar, the Media bar should open as per the Search/History/Favourites bar on the left. From there click on Media Options/Settings and choose Reset Preferred Types.....

The next you click on an mpeg file in IE it should ask you if you want to play the item in IE or not. Choose No and WMP should open.
