Hi, I got Windows XP and got this really annoying problem. It forced me to enter my .NET account details for my XP user account when i first used MSN messenger. Now, whenever I log on to my computer, Windows messenger, the messenger client that comes with windows xp, signs on automatically in the background. The client isn't even visible. I got past this sort of by changing .NET account details to another email account I have. But i know it still signs on automatically cos whenever I sign on to my main account using MSN messenger, windows signs on with windows messenger in the background with my other email, i can't close windows messenger because its not even showing up on the taskbar nor is there a hidden icon next to the clock.
How could I disable this annoying feature once and for all?

goto control panel, user accounts
select the name of the account that you are using. In the top left click manage my network passwords. if i remember rightly you should now see your net account entry. all you have to do is delete this.
now when you try and log in to that account it will ask for username and psw every time.
hope that helps

I would just uninstall Windows Messenger so it'll never come up in the background anymore.
Go to Start and then Run (or Win-Key + R) and type the following:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Works for me, I actually have it in a batch file I run after a reinstall of WinXP to tidy things up.
But punk's advice will also work well :)

Or ... open Messenger goto Tools/Options/General and untick all the boxes in the Sign-In options.
