Hi all,

I have just started using jet tec cartridges with my canon ip4000 but for some reason it never knows when any of the jet tec cartriges have run out of ink. It keeps printing and you can tell one of the cartridges need replacing as the colour go all funny.

Now I don't think the printer is faulty as I have since tested original canon cartidges and they have no problem telling me once the ink has run out.

Anybody having the same kind of problem or any ideas as to why this happends?

Probably the cartridges dont have the sensor on it, like the canon carts do.

Real Canon ink tanks are transparent and have a small triangular prism at the bottom of each ink tank. When the tanks are full, the prism at the bottom of each tank allows light from a photodiode to be reflected back. When the tank is empty the light doesn't reflect back. This tells the printer whether the ink tanks are full or empty.

You tec cartridges either aren't transparent or don't have the reflective prism.

Thanks for the ingo guys. Yes looks like they don't have the reflective prism.

Anyone one know of any other ink compatibles that do have the reflective prism?

It's a bit of a pain when I have to take out each ink cart to see which one is empty. Also some times wasting my photo paper.

I grabbed some of these: http://www.blankdvdsupermarket.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=inks0020&cat=3 the other day for my i865 and they appear to have the prism.

They have a databank sticker on them, however they seem to be rather generic. No idea what is available over in the UK.

Yep I too have found that some compats have this whilst most don't, np as I prefer to let my eyes be the judge anyway as usually they will print fine for ages after the empty warning comes up.
