Ghost is my reccomendation it is easy to use reliable, but you need to configure your machine properly once and then create your image. Once this is done you should be able to restore your pc in under 15 minutes. My 1.2 gig image takes about 5 mins to restore.

Acronis True Image.

BTW, most modern pcs have a complete original OS stored in another partition.

" window xp restore is a waste of time." Why is that? Takes only a few minutes.

...did you expect any reasoning to his ranting?!

System Restore didn't work for him this one time so he thinks something else will always work better, but he's using some flawed logic and circumstantial evident to point figures at something that probable had nothing to do with the original problem.

If something happened that was detrimental enough to the system to damage even System Restore then of course the system won't boot, but that doesn't mean System Restore caused the original problem.

There are hundreds of other things on a PC that have the potential of going wrong and prevent it from booting, System restore certainly won't resolve them all but neither will any of these other suggestions he's getting, such as GoBack or ghost. (each of them have their own unique set of problems)

I would agree with a previous post - Norton GoBack 4 is the way to go!

some features:
Disk Drive Restore Recovers your disk drive by bringing your computer back

to the way that it was in the past. If Windows won’t

start, you can access Disk Drive Restore directly from the

Norton GoBack boot menu.

Advanced Disk Drive Restore

Recovers your disk drive and provides more choices for

recovery time and dates.

Post-Restore File Rescue

Locates and rescues individual files that were lost

following a Disk Drive Restore or an Advanced Disk Drive

Restore.

Disk Drive Compare Creates a virtual copy of your disk drive so that you can

search for files from the past and compare the virtual

copy with your current disk drive.

File & Version Rescue

Locates lost and accidentally deleted files and folders by

using a search tool. Also rescues old versions of files.

SafeTry Mode Protects your computer during any activity where there

might be unknown consequences to your computer. If

the activity causes any problem, SafeTry Mode lets you

return your computer to a safe condition.

AutoBack Ensures that your computer is automatically wiped clean

and returned to a clean state. This is particularly useful if

your computer has multiple users, or if children use your

computer.

Password protection

Prevents other users from using Norton GoBack features

on your computer.
