Well this is getting ridiculous, after downloading both the french and english versions and messing around with them for ages and wasting lots of dvds i find i still cant play them, all i got was dirty disc error before anything happened.

So i go out and get the original, i think to myself, well why not it is halo 2, so i load it up and im playing away happily then i get to the end of a level (possibly 3rd) where you're going along a long bridge thing, usually you'll have a ghost or the warthog then the screen just fades and i get dirty disc error. Tried about 10 times now, cleaned the disc, i even restarted the level got to the end and the same again!

Has anyone heard of this problem and possibly know what the hell i do next? looks like im not meant to play this one :bawling:

hi got halo 2 bought it and works fine for me
could be that the laser is losing its power slowly and coming up with disk read error
so laser is knackered
or infact needs a good hand clean inside
dust etc

Yup, sounds like your DVD Drive is the problem and not your backups. Which DVD Drive do you have in your XBOX?

from xbox-scene:

There's even a thread about the problem on bungie.net's Halo2 forums (http://bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=1044114) saying "'Dirty Disc'/'Failed to Load Map' errors could be the result of a problem with your Xbox (more likely in older units). In most cases, if you reset your box, there's a chance the map will load properly next time. While we can't create a fix that will alleviate what might ultimately be a hardware related problem, we can hopefully make it so you won't have to reboot upon a map failure before you play another game. This issue is being investigated."

I guess by reset it means literally restart the game, if so that means nothing.

Ive got the Thomson drive, looks like thats the cheap shoddy one that has trouble.

Looks like im gonna have to get a new drive for my xbox.

Anyone know how much those cost?
