Got an Orbit PTDVD-768S DVD Player almost 4 months ago off ebay (from HK), it worked fine up until a couple of weeks ago but now it has problems when I play copied dvds.

Basically it just freezes completely or skips really badly, I played a couple of originals and they were fine apart from a couple of small freezes, but I was on a train at the time and it was nothing compared to when it plays copies.

I dont know if its a problem with the laser or what, I dont really want to have to send it back to Hong Kong- any suggestions?

hi the small freeze can be the dvd layer changing over to the others.
your see this where the dvd player pause for a second.
the other option is that the dvd player is over heating
when you use the machine from cold does it happen right away or when the unit gets
very warm.
have you tried it just on the power mains not on the battery itself

i know a company that can have a look at the unit for you m8
but there would be a small charge for checking the item out and allso the postage.
but it beat sending it back overseas

Have you tried cleaning the laser ?

Also what dye type/quality are the copied movies ? ........ as some cheap medias (such as Princo) has been known not to work some months after burning.

B2K1 - Yeah m8 it does seem fine to start with, but then when it starts to get warm its skips

Phil - I'll have to get a lens cleaner of some sort, I tend to use riteks for dvd-r movies and bog standard white-tops for vcd, and I always burn at a low speed (well for dvdr anyway :))

Thanks for the suggestions guys :t_up:

yeah m8 im starting to think it is the issue of it being too hot, just watched rhcp dvd (original) with no probs b4 so I think its just to do with it heating up

hi it can allso be that the laser runner is dried and needs some grease on it
this can give the same effect as the dvd laser will be moving
if there no grease on the laser runner it will make dvds jump.
have a close look at the laser and you should see a metal runner on the laser
but make sure the unit is of no power to it at all.

the other option could be that the power unit is breaking down.
what it like on battery is this the same effect

tell me how you get on with it
