I just only know the info for the US pal machines but the pal machines also have an excalibur video chip in them but I would assume that the production dates whould be similar

They have no TSOP chip onboard, it's a small eeprom chip that is right next to the lpc ports.

1.6 board - no tsop pictured

how can you tell a 1.6 apart from a 1.6b?

for a 1.6 and 1.6b you look at the power cables that come from the power supply to the motherboard, if they are mostly orange then you have a 1.6, if they are mostly brown the you have a 1.6b.

Another way to tell is the RAM chips for a 1.6 are manufactured by Samsung, on 1.6b the RAM chip is manufactured by Hynix(hyundai). The RAM chip is about an inch south of the Video Input plug.
