Anyone know what error 16 (Service required) means ?
I tried to softmod a crystal xbox (Mech *** hack) and everything seemed to work until I tried to load a backup and I got error 16 Service required. I now cant FTP to the x-box as this screen appears when I try to boot up with the mech *** disk. Is this because of a clock loop perhaps ?
Anyone got any idea's ?
Cheers

Error 16... EXPLAINED...
Yes, it is a DASHBOARD ERROR, but it is due to the CLOCK SETTING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NORMAL BOOT PROCESS:
1.Xbox turns on
2. several checks are done for hardware, incuding RAM, HD, and DVD-DRIVE, just to test if they are present
3.Xbox checks SYSTEM TIME -> if no time is found -> boot dash off hard drive to set time
4. Xbox looks for default.xbe on DISC, if it is not found, goto 5
5. Xbox boots dash off of Hard drive
What is happening in your case:
1.Xbox turns on
2. several checks are done for hardware, incuding RAM, HD, and DVD-DRIVE, just to test if they are present
3.Xbox checks SYSTEM TIME ->TIME NOT FOUND -> Xbox tries to launch dash off of hard drive -> DASH NOT FOUND-> ERROR 16 - DASH ERROR
The fix:
Put back in your OLD drive (the one with the dash's still on it)
Set the time
Swap the drives without physically unplugging the xbox from the power source (turn off at the power button of course) - and noobs be careful we will not be held responsibile if you electrcute yourself by being stupid and touching the PSU or something

Cheers. Thought it would be related to the clock somehow. My problem is that I only have the one drive. I did manage to back up the old C:\ drive though, so how can I get this put back. can this be done on the PC ?

Cheers for the post m8. Can I just check that I can use the boot disk to replace the C:\ drive on the xbox (Softmod) with the original C:\ drive that I backed up ?

I only backed up the C:\ unfortunately. Do I need the eeprom for the password for the xbox/drive ?

IF YOU USED THE LATEST EVOX... the password should be TEAMASSEBLY by default.
in the backup folder on the C: there is the hd key and password if you backed it up correctly....
if your xbox can still play originals.... get the ude softmod and use 007:AUF or one of the installers to fix the dash problem.
