I have a V7 PS2 with a Magic chip that plays backup game fine is it possible to put these games onto a hard drive and boot direct from that?

How does the hard drive link to the PS2?

Can I use an exisitng Maxtor 80GB hard drive I have or does it need to be a special drive?

Do I need any additional software?

As you can see don't know anything about this so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Kaine.

Yes maxtor will be fine and the HD loader cd or hdloader backup or the the hdloader on your memory card would work

Thanks for that PS2Daddy.

How do I connect the hard drive to the PS2 do I need some sort of case with a connector on it?

Its fits in the back of the ps2 behind that piece of black plastic which you can take out now if you want to look.

Thanks guys have found it in the UK for £17.99.

I'm thinking about getting a PS2, and didn't know anything about the harddrive thing before so sorry if this is a thick question.
Does the PS2 have to be chipped in order to play the games off hard drive or could you just hook up a hard drive with games on it to a non-chipped PS2?
Also, how do you transfer games to the hard drive? You have to hook hd upto your PC? What format are the games in on the HD? iso's?

If you copy only originals to the hd you don't need a chip.

1. Attach maxtor HD to network adaptor port it has an ide slot and power slot insert drive face up (make sure you have the approriate jumper selection for drive before doing this should be on master if I am not mistaken)

2. Insert disk and follow instructions that come up for saving game to HD

3. Insert HD loader disk every time you play the games on your HD

4. Have fun :)

simple as that !! alot easier than the xbox !!

one last question please, since my chip needs me to use swap disk,
can i still load back-ups on the hard drive and play them? or
do i have to put origanals on the hard drive?

thanks for your time mate, appreciated.
