Can anyone recommend a cheap dvd player that plays all backups with no trouble? I'm looking for a dvd player that plays even no named media without any skipping. When i use my computer dvd rom they play fine but when I use it in the ps2, the dvd will skip every few minutes. Anyone else have similar probs? thanks a lot guys!

Just go with quality media. It will be less hassle in the long run. The PS2 is VERY picky about it's media (generally speaking). A $35 Apex should do the job nicely, though.

I've got a NEC2500 and use the Yakumo XL2 Multi-region DVD Player
it plays anything and everything without a problem.
£34.99 inc free delivery (£31.99 for new customers using the £3 voucher)from here mate

try mertiline.com find your writer & find what media they suggest you use with it then you can order that from anywhere you want but they are pretty cheap.

It's not cheap but it is the cream of the crop. Taiyo Yuden would be my recommendation.

Varies from writer to writer.

The NEC is generally very media tolerant (apart from problems with Riteks) and will often burn a Princo better than a Ritek (and better than most other writers, to the point where picky players that normally would spit Princos play them just fine when burned with the NEC).

Your best bet is to get the best synergy between recorder, disc and player, and that generally (but not always) means the most tolerant of all three.

So TY discs with the NEC and a cheap DVD player with a PC DVD-ROM drive in it is a good combination if you want an easy life. The Yakumo mentioned, along with most Yamada drives are pretty good options.

For the player ... Daewoo has a good rep among the cheapo brands.

For the media, if Riteks are no good for your burner, then try the Taiyo Yudens as mentioned above or OptoDisc (which run about $70 shipped at Rima.com, damn cheap). No guarantees on either of the media but the Optos work perfectly with my Pio 105 and my v10 PS2 loves them as well.

Have had bad results with the Opto's. The BeALLs that Meritline sells are reasonably priced and produced a very nice result in my burner with Nero CD Speed.

A friend has a $35 Daewoo that plays most every thing he throws at it (except Princo burns), NTSC and PAL too. But the image quality is not quite as good as it should be and using the remote is an exercise in futility. A nicely laid out remote can be a real joy.
