PC takes forever to do anything after XP repair

hi guys, I recently had to chkdsk my HD and then run windows XP repair due to the PC not starting up.

Now, then it's working it takes over a minute for something like IE to start after clicking it, explorer windows take forever to open, close or minimize

there's also loads of stuff running if I look in the task manager

I've run Ad-aware and my virus checker but it's still as bad

any ideas that don't involve "format and re-install"?

have you tried system restore, say to a point last week?

obtain a great prog called ' tune-up utilities 2004 '

you can easily change what progs load at start up and there is loads of other actions that might help you out.

another one is ' advanced system optimizer ' if you have no joy with tune-up

ad aware does miss quite a lot, try spybot s&d as well and also do a hijack this and post it on here, someone will be able to tell you whats wrong, if anything, from that
