My pc keeps rebooting at random intervals, sometimes after 5 mins other times after 2 hours.
It sometimes happens when playing a game or if the pc is just downloading from kazaa for example.

The temperatures are 30C for system and 42C for cpu.
According to the monitor software, these temperatures are fine.
Ive checked for virus, but found none.

My specs are:
P4 3ghz
1gb ddr pc3200 RAM
Ati radeon 9600XT
XP pro with service pack 1
PSU is Antec True power 380w

I cant think of what else it could be.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have you check the temps in the bios? If so, and it's not overheating, it is probably a memory problem or the PSU.

If your 1gb Ram is 2 x 512mb try running with just one stick .... if no joy , swap for other.
Might help to narrow it down.

Go to control panel >system>advanced>startup and recovery>settings then under system failure uncheck automatic restart,u might be able to see what the error is that is causing the reboot, also try a memory test tool to test your ram sticks.

what modem do you have? this was a problem which i have highlighted on this board before, with a Terrayon Terrajet 210.

Hmmm... are you sure it's not virus related? Some agressive spy/adware causing your system to crash maybe? Just to be sure, run Spybot or Adaware and see if they come up with anything.

Also you might want to perform a defragmentation, or run chkdsk, it might veryy well just be a bad custer or something

well if it happens mostly during playing online games and while kazzaa is running you are running a server and its leaving you open to attack most lilkley denial of service

well i tried spybot and got rid of everything it found. I then did nortons and no infection was found. I checked the rate of the fan rpm compared to what it said in the BIOS and it was fine. However on the cpu fan status it said (on the software that came with the mobo) that the fan was running too slow.
So i increased that, and it still rebooted. I then went into the BIOS and loaded the optimal defaults, and since then it hasnt reset. But i havent been on the pc a great deal, so its difficult to say whether its fixed or not.
But thanks for all your thoughts/ideas

i had the same problem mate. I sent it to get fixed several times and all they did was replace the ram but that didn't work. When i finally complained my arse off to them they eventually fixed it by replaced the processor and fan. Apparently the fan was faulty and cause the processor overheated the computer shut down.

Maybe the same with you or maybe not.

i replaced the ram with corsair value select. Its PC3200 DDR 400 2x512MB.
I also replaced the NB fan a Zalman heatsink.
The temps are as follows:
system 29.0C
cpu 41.0C
pwm 30.0C

However the pc still reboots itself every now and then.
The last time it happened i was just downloading a dvd cover.

Any more suggestions?
Thanks
