It's either the type of media used, or your dvd drive is fading on you. Install it to your HDD if you can.

chunky, setting clock (make sure its set anyways) and putting it on hdd will not work (you can try), i had the same prob, it was the dvd5 fix that was the problem, or the xbe file , think theres a new one (fix) out mate, get hold of that.

yep, got the same problem as chunky here.
mine just boots past the evo x screen then before anything happens it says disc is dirty or damaged.
my xbox has an old enigma chip if that makies any difference but ive tried to retail patch and that still didn't work.
what is the fix here, cus loads of people have got a copy working fine using the dvd5 patch so why are we experiencing problems and what can be done about it?
cheers for any help.

Nah, it's not your chip m8 (talking to snooper_uk here) as others have reported playing it just fine. Mine too is a total crap shoot when loading it on mine with an Aladdin chip (which is a good chip imho) but will load perfectly on my TSOP'ed Halo Edition console.
I'd suspect it's either your media or your drive's laser giving up on ya. The latter probably being the real culprit. You might want to test it on another box with a better dvdrom drive than yours (ie. Samsung) and see if it'll load or not. I know your box is old based on your chip as I use to have one myself.

I seem to be having the same prob , but I doubt it's the laser going out considering every other game works, i.e. Bloodrayne 2, Terminator Redemption , Mortal Kombat Deception, and just about every other game I have work perfectly. The Xbox also plays just about every type of media i've thrown at it, even cheap silvers. It's not a media problem because i'm using a DVD-RW , one which had Def Jam Fight For New York working perfectly before erasing it and burning halo on it . Clock is set to the right time and date, so it's also not that , gone keep playing around with it and will post back if i find the problem.

no need to use the dvd5 fix just extract the iso delete update.xbe dashupdate.xbe and downloader.xbe i think it is and its a snug fit for dvd5 so i have read on another forum
what bios are you guys running?
snooper_uk
10-23-2004, 03:59 AM
ive got evo x 2.4 running.
just about to try and rip those parts out instead of using the patch. will report back later.
edit: ripped out the 3 .xbe files and it fitted a dvd so i burned it off again...still does the same thing :( looks like im not playing this one.

you need to get the dummy.bik and rename it as attract.bik and then slap it in the bik folder and let it overwrite, and then replace the default.xbe file, and delete dashupdate.xbe this will then make it into a dvd5 doing just the xbe`s on its own will not work.
anyways i did this and it got rid of the immediate dirty disk error, but its still gives one at level 5 in campaign
its the disk`s problem, but this was using the first dvd5 fix out, apparently theres a newer one out.
dvd5 fix (automatic) = dirty disk error after menu
dvd5 fix (manually) = = dirty disk error / crash level 5
tryed millions of bios`s
xecuter 4981
xecuter 4983
xecuter 3 ( nearly all builds)
alladin m8
all clock settings etc, etc
its defo the disk (as in the files on there) , there are people playing this, in fact ive heard one or two have completed it, so when i get time / well again i`ll have a look.

I'd assume its a media problem
I had downloaded this & patched it with the dvd5 fix burned it to white printable ritek & gave me dirty disc errors
I thought it was my drive or laser packing in as i started to get dirty disc errors with other games (fifa 2005 & t.h.u.g 2) burning to this media
so reburned them on regular non printable riteks & seem to work fine now
I wouldnt of thought its a mod chip problem as i have a earlier chip in my xbox & game runs fine
so i recomend burning to quality media (riteks) non printable ones m8

Got a similar fault here.
Got the disk off a mate and it booted fine on the Grey Datawrite disk. Copied it direct to my hard drive with TSOP flashed Xecuter 2 4983.67. Worked fine.
FTP'd it to my PC using flashFXP.
Then moved it to my mates 1.6 X3 with X3 1983 (Latest version) Disk read error.
Created and ISO using Craxtion, and then burnt to a disk datawrite yellow (Ritek dye) and disk read error.
Something Strange.
Maybe an FXP problem

Sounds like a media/drive problem to me. Which DVD Drive do you have in your XBOX, chunky? Which media are you using? Also, I don't know why you guys have to go through all of that garbage just to get the DVD5 conversion to work. I just picked it up today, clicked on the main conversion file and it did the whole conversion, patching, ect. all for me. I guess I just go lucky or something. Anyways mine works fine. Although playing the game with english subtitles is gonna get kind of annoying.

Enjoy playing mate, it may be something as simple as disc media used but i only have datawrite reds, could go and buy another single one but they usually dont have good quality singles anywhere and it might just be a waste of time.
anyone got any more info?

I tell you it's completely random. I've made a couple of mentions now that things are wierd. I have a dual bios chip and the xecuter bios works fine but m8 does not. this is with exactly the same disc. None of m8 buds are getting probs with an assortment of chips even with a very old beta (23 wire) chip it's running sweet. I'm talking about 10 people with assorted chips and bios. I initially ran the dvd5 kit and thats what about half of my pals have. Then as I experienced probs with m8 I unpacked the iso with craxion and simply removed the dash update xbe.... NOTHING more or less. re-made the iso and burned. A further half dozen people are using a copy of it done that way fine as well. YET bank 1 m8 bios on my 2.6 xecuter which loads every other game known to man (Samsung drive) will have none of it.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop looking ar drives and media as the root of the problem, as far as I can tell there is something stranger happening here.
richbambam, hope you don't mind me asking (not questioning your wisdom m8) but what do you believe to be the prob with printable ritek? I use these for 95% of my stuff and even with the very worst Thompson/Phillips (gen 1) drives they work sweet as a nut. Must admit for older consoles I do drop the burn speed down to 2x, infact I generally burn most stuff at 2x as I have the luxury of time :-)

to all those saying its a media drive problem
it is apparently the dvd5 fix, there is a new one out, "proper"
ive tried it on every bios chip ive had in, and it was always the same level 5.
but strange things happen
got the new fix and wey hey! ;)

That must be what I picked up then. I just D/L the latest rip-kit file that was put up there and it does everything for you by simply double clicking on the Halo2DVD5-GGS file (once you extract the initial file with winrar, of course ;) ) and it automatically takes you into MS Dos and configures the whole ISO file for you. It apparently patches the file as well since I am running the 'ol Xecutor 4973 Bios on my X2 Lite chip and it works fine.

I hear ya there. Even though there are subtitles, you still kinda have to play guessing games with what you are supposed to be doing on the release that has been out for a while.

Not necessarily. I had the same issue from time to time with my Phillips drive. Sometimes I would have backups on Ritek DVD-R (burned 1x/2x) that would give me trouble but if I reburned them on my G04 Riteks (using DVD Decrypter and Pioneer 105 with V1.21 FW) then they would play flawlessly. Anyways, DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP ON THE ENGLISH VERSION FOLKS!!!!! A reliable source has just let us know that it looks like it is a hoax. I knew it was too good to be true. The thing was supposed to come already ripped to DVD5 as well.

Well, a few of my friends came round last night and I put Halo 2 on just to show them what the problem is. The strange thing is we got the multi-player game working? but still got the same problem on single player?
Im just going to wait for the full English version when that comes out. Oui? Thanks for the advice everyone
