Hi,

I wonder if any of you guys can throw any suggestions at this.

Trying to build a PC for my sister all was looking goods until I turned it on and although there is power the monitor stays in sleep mode.

O.k. here is what I can see happening and what I have tried so far.

Motherboard powers up o.k. and fan spins on CPU and motherboard comes out of standby when power button on case is pushed.

When I turn on power switch the NumLock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock lights flash, but the thing im miffed about is there is no audible beep from the system and I have not heard one at all.

Have tested RAM in my PC and works fine.
Have tested GFX card in my PC works fine
Have tested Monitor works fine.

Other info when I turn on power switch the NumLock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock lights flash, but the thing im miffed about is there is no audible beep from the system and I have not heard one at all.

Have tried all this without connecting any drives just so no more problems are added but to no avail monitor stays in sleep mode

O.k. below is the components used

Asus P4V8X-X SKT478 VIA P4x533 Sound LAN USB 2.0 FSB800 SATA133R Retail Box
Intel Celeron 2.0GHZ 400MHZ SKT478 128Kb Cache Retail Boxed
ATI Radeon 9200SE 128MB DDR 8xAGP TV-Out Retail Box (MSI Branded)
Ebuyer 512 DDR400 PC3200 Extra Value Ram

So if any has any comments please reply, I suspect the motherboard has a fault but I just might be overlooking something?

I assume you have connected a speaker, the cpu heatsink-fan & the 4 pin-12V power connector?

Otherwise I think you are down to the m/b, the processor or possibly the psu.

Yep as i have said everything powers up, also there is a light on the motherboard that tells you when it is in standby, and when i push the power button on the front of the case this goes off as it should do.

I have tried everything i can think of and think it all comes back to a duff motherboard grrr, now i have to return the damn thing.

Well... seems a mobo prob to me too. Just before giving it away check for the CMOS battery. For couple of occasions I have found new mobos with dead batteries.

Unplug the power cord (from wall) to PSU, put the CMOS jumper on Clear CMOS position for ~ 30 seconds then put it back on Normal Operating position. Power up the system to see if it works. If not, take the mobo out of the case to test it to make sure it's not a short that causes the problem.

Have tryed clearing the CMOS to no avail, will take out of case to test if it is a short causing the problem.
