mos checksum error any ideas

pc keeps shutting down and then when i reboot it says


mos checksum error


and when i switch it back on the clock says 31 dec 99
and all programs all just like when they have all been installed

any ideas

Yep, you need to replace the CMOS battery.

Yes, it's a CMOS Bat. The battery number is usually CR 2032.

do i need to get a cetain type battery or just a normal like watch battery

is it easy to replace

Take the battery out of the socket and read the battery # on it. You may need to take the battery with you to the store for cross-reference.

As MasterMind said, most mobos use CR-2032 battery.
