View Full Version : looking for advice on win xp - having problems accessing files

I had a problem in booting pc and could not repair so ended up installing xp on same partition so I have boot menu. The problem is i would like to get my emails off the original xp install - i tried to find then on partition however xp security wont let me get anywhere near them - anyone got any ideas

i know its a pain, but the easy long way is to use an old hard disk, install whatever os on it and have your old hd as slave and it'll be easy access.
otherwise i think you'll have to go in to dos and copy over the e mails.

the partition is ntfs - will i be able to slave it and also access files or will the xp security restrict me cause it will know I am not the person who logged in?

How you are logging in to the current installation? Try to log in as an Administrator.

If you used the encrypted file system your chances are very poor. Otherwise if you log in as an admin you should be able to get them, assuming they are still there of course.

i go into documents and settings and click on folder but its not accessable (keeps saying access is denied) even under admin sign on - is there anyway of getting access i know the password but cant log into first install because its knacked
