yep,
its impossible for me to find any info on what to do with a xbox to get it working with backedup games....
ive been doing sonys for years, but xboxs are a whole different story, and after 2 nights of looking for stuff, i CANNOT find exactly what im looking for.....

So i was wondering if one of u lovely people could assist me....

I have an xbox......Im not sure which version, cus i cannot find any place to tell me how to identify it......not sure if version matters on this type of stuff, but it mattered on ps2 so im not sure...

Ok, i want to be able to play backups....
I know i require a chip...ive been lookin around, and most people seem to think either the executer i think or the XBIT....from what i know, the XBIT looks the better one, and i cant solder....

Also, once i have a modchip installed and ready to run, i understand i need it connected to my computer.....fair enough, on mochips.com their xbit comes with a usb cable, so thats alright, cus eveyone has a usb port.....I also read somewhere that computers cannot read the xbox dvds, which means this connnection is neccesary.....

Ok so i have a connection and a mochip installed....i was reaidng something about u need a dashboard, now im not 100% sure what a dashboard is, but im guessing its like the operating/navigation system when there are no discs in the drive.....correct me if im wrong please....but im assuming the standard dashboard that comes with the xbox, is the thing with the three options, memory, music, settings.......
I also have no idea on how to put this EvolutionX as i believe its called, onto the hard drive....and how to get it to read that, instead of the standard one...and also what version i need cus there seem to be a lot

Im not sure whether i need a new HD or not, or the standard one can be modified? im assuming the standard one is fine...(again, correct me if im wrong please)

now another thing im not sure about, is the flash bios thing.....i have read everywhere that u need to do it, but cant c how many times, if u have to do it each game, each day, each week, or only when u first get your chip......
also, why do u have to flash the bios? i have the programs flashfxp and some XBIT program i found on mochips.com (im not sure whether its mochips.com, or mochip.com), so is that all i need for that part of it? and is it hard to do?

Now say ive got the dashboard installed, and the bios flashed, (really dont know how to do either as u can c)
What do i need to do then? if i want to backup a game of mine, i read somehwere, that i must insert the game, load up evolutionX(how do i do that? lol) and then copy it to my computer into a directory. Is that where flashFXP comes into it????

also once ive done that, do i have to make an iso file with a program? im not sure which program, what do u guys recommend? anyway is that hard? do LBA numbers have to be put in and etc like when rebuilding an iso on the ps2?
ok, so ive built the iso, and its saved as say HALO.iso (just an exmaple of a game ive got)..
And i go into nero, and go to burn it onto a dvd.....mode 1 2048? i read somewhere they r what it needs to be set to.......but im not sure.....

now once its burnt, am i completely right to go ahead and play it? do i need to run it out of evoX or cani just play it like its an original game????

any help would be greatly appreciated and i mean greatly appreciated, and any extra stuff u might wanna add in would be great as well.....
thanks for taking the time to read this LONG LONG LONG post, but im sure im not the only one out there, who is struggling to find straight up answers for newbies, rather than advanced guides for professionals lol

I find that very hard to believe that you've been looking hard for two days

For a list/comparison of modchips check this link (http://xbox-scene.com/modchips.php)- you will be able to link to the modchip producers from there- they'll have tutorials and diagrams showing how to install the chip and what points need to besoldered etc. You wanna be going for at least a generation 3b chip, installation tutorials can be found here (http://xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php?t=0,1,0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0). But it is possible (if you don't care about playing xbox live) to play backups without installing a chip- check the tutorials here (http://xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php?t=0,0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0).

As for how to create/make and transfer backups of games you own- try here (http://xbox-scene.com/articles/iso-backup-guide.php):

the usb cable for thexbit- is used to flash the modchip externally from the pc- its not a way to transfer files over from the pc or viceversa, youuse the ethernet connection at the back of the xbox- connecting direct to a pc use a x-over cable and connecting to a netwrok use a standard network cable

thanks for the quick reply, ill check that out...and im not planning to play over xbox live, so if it saves on gettin a chip great....thanks...
oh and i had found stuff over the last two nights, but it just explained what i had to do, rather than why and other aspects of it, such as "flash your bios"....that might as well be written in french cus i cant understand it....

ok- yeah i understand it all looked like rubbish to me when i first got interested in the scene- xbox-scene is very useful- both the main site (http://xbox-scene.com/) where there is a vast selection of tutorials.

i just had a quick glance over all the modchips, what do you recommend? it kinda has to be solderless, cus i cant do that.....at the moment, i think the XBIT looks the best.....as far as i can see, its solderless.....which is the main thing.....is divineo a reliable site to buy off?

hmmmm.... tough one, basically, i, like you am crap with soldering and just had friend replaced the old chip i screwed up by doing a bad flash, with an x23 pro.

General consensus is that the solderless chips are more expensive, and can become unseated if you happen to move your xbox roughly (or even not so roughly). You may need a little soldering for the d0 point (not sure, never seen a xbit chip installed). Maybe it'd be an idea to hold off and see what other members who may have fitted the xbit chip to see some more useful feedback-
The 2mb bios seems a massive overkill- i got a 1mb bios with upto 4x 256 banks and even that is overkill, unless you want to run a debug bios, linux and a number of the "usual" bioses.

not sure where you're based but the x23 lite plus is also solderless and has a 1mb bios with the ability to run 2x512kb bioses, which is proabably more than enough for what you want.

If you don't care about live then i think the no-modchip solution maybe more to your taste- you won't have to buy a modchip nor will you have to open up the xbox at all. You'll just need to get your hands on a memcard with one of the game save hacks, the corresponding retail game, and the rest can be found from the "usual places"

TSOP Flashing - I know this sounds like french, but basically it is flashing the onboard bios with a hacked bios to play games, it requires the bridging of two points on the motherboard, which I do with a conductivity pen(lead and silver in a pen that you can spread on motherboards) it's a solderless solution, but you will require most of the tools from a game save exploit(mem card with hacked game save)(ability to to ftp into your xbox through crossover cable)(bridged points on motherboard)

My advice is keep reading up on the subject, if you have any more questions just ask, but honestly research is what xbox chipping comes down to.

Perhaps you should invest in a premodified xbox. Saves you alot of hassle. Just make sure you get one from a tursted trader.

oh one more quesiton, how do i find out what type of xbox i have?

the only thing that looks remotely similiar to the ps2 version number (SCPH-3000X) is
F23-00063 on the xbox box

and if so, would the Xecuter 2.0/2.2/2.3/2.3b Lite Plus be a good option....this is so damn confusing lol

look at the power connector to the motherboard. i believ they used 3 different styles. that should give you an idea.
