Mpeg To Mpeg4

can anyone tell me how i change/convert mpeg files to mpeg4 or avi ?

simplest method if you intend to encode from mpeg2 (dvd) to mpeg4 would be to look into using something like autogk (http://www.autogk.net/)

you can do it with essentially avisynth, virtualdubmod, a choice od video encoder e.g. xvid, and and an audio encoder such as be sweet or dbpoweramp

Gordian Knot is another alternative a little more complicated than autogk (which is a one click derivative of Gordian Knot) but should be able to accept other forms of source other than vobs (not sure if autogk accpets anything else)

however note that if the source isn't mpeg2 the eventual quality is not gonna be paritcularly good- you will lose quality everytime you convert from A to B so if your source is vcd mepg1 then you will not be able to gain any extra in quality- you will probably be able to make a significant in file size though

mpeg4 is capable of essentially transparent quality though.

For mp4 probably best to convert the video to avi, then remux to mp4. Adding audio, subtitles, chapters, menu's, etc.
